THE Papua New Guinea Barramundis suffered losses to Scotland and Oman in the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup League Two last weekend.
The Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited-sponsored side’s first match on Saturday saw a standout performance by Chad Soper in a six-wicket loss to Scotland.
With Scotland electing to field first, the Barras’ top order was dismissed early in the match but Soper’s 46 not-out helped PNG reach 197.
Skipper Assad Vala (28 runs) and Damien Ravu (32) contributed to the Barras’ tally.
But a strong bowling performance from Scotland’s Gavin Main (three wickets) and Alasdair Evans denied PNG from reaching 200 as the Barras were all dismissed in the 48th over.
Scotland’s strong chase allowed them to get on top with man-of-the-match Mathew Cross (70) getting the edge over the Barras before being run out by Kipling Doriga.
Joining Cross in their chase was Calum MacLeod (45), George Munsey (27 not-out) and skipper Kyle Coetzer (23) with the Scots reaching their target in the 43rd over (4/198).
The second match saw the Barras lose to hosts Oman by 110 runs on Sunday.
The Barras won the toss and opted to field first with Oman’s Suraj Kumar stepping up for an impressive 62 not-out which saw them reach 7/250 (after 50 overs).
The Barras were unable to reach Oman’s target as man-of-the-match Zeeshan Maqsood took four wickets to see PNG all out for 140 in the 42nd over.
