CRICKET Papua New Guinea (CPNG) yesterday named its Under-19 national 18-man squad for next year’s World Cup in the West Indies.
CPNG said in a statement that a final squad of 15 would be named later this year with three to remain in the country as non-travelling reserves.
“With PNG set to compete in the U19 World Cup in the West Indies in January, the nation’s best 18 young male cricket players have now been selected,” the sport’s national governing body said.
Meanwhile, CPNG national talent identification manager Rodney Maha was excited about the potential of the squad.
“With our help over the next three months, teaching these raw talents about nutrition, strength and conditioning, and working on their cricket skills, I am confident our team will make PNG proud,” he said.
“Take note of these names, there are future stars in this team who will play for the Barras.”
All members of the squad have had their first jab of the Coronavirus vaccine and have started getting Passports, so should they make the final 15-man travelling squad, they will be ready to represent PNG on the world stage.
