COACH Bob Morris says his Northern Conference ladder-leading Lae City have moved on from their draw with Dwellers as they prepare for their round-10 National Soccer League clash with rookies Northern Youth.
The Lae Biscuit Company-sponsored reigning champions dropped their first points of season in the 1-1 stalemate, but they remain the only unbeaten side in the seven-team conference.
Morris told The National that it was not the result he had expected, but he commended third-placed Dwellers for putting up a challenge in Saturday’s round-nine fixture.
“Dwellers stepped up in the second half,” he said.
“Unfortunately, regular strikers Jibola Afonja, Jonathan Allen and Eliude Fugre didn’t play due to injury.
“We also lost winger Stahl Gubag after he fell awkwardly and dislocated his elbow in the first half.
“The game was intense as both sides were determined to win.
“We had about six clear chance on goal, but our reserve strikers did not find the net, so credit to Dwellers, they really put up a strong challenge.
“The second half of the season will be very tough, especially after the mid-season transfer window.
“So we expect more competitive matches as we head into the business end of the season.
“We have moved on from the draw and are working on our weakness for our remaining games.
“Hopefully, I’ll have a full-strength team this weekend.”
Despite the draw, which ended their perfect start to the season, City remain two wins (six points) clear of second-placed Morobe Wawens.
