THE Papua New Guinea Barramundis are gearing up for a double-header Twenty-20 (T20) international fixture today in Hong Kong as they look to wrap up their tour.
Following the conclusion of their series in Oman last Friday, the team travelled to Hong Kong over the weekend ahead of the T20I series today with the playoff set for tomorrow.
The Barramundis will meet Nepal at 11am (PNG time) before facing the hosts Hong Kong at 4pm to determine tomorrow’s playoff clash.
“Whatever match or series we play, we look to win it, that’s first and foremost. All other strings to tie up for long term comes second,” head coach Tatenda Taibu told The National yesterday.
“We are trying different styles and tactics for the World Cup in June, especially with our bowling combinations.”
Taibu said the team was working on their bowling combinations apart from tightening their batting paring.
They are also focused on having a happy changing room, being known as fighters to the very end as well as being ruthless and following a plan on game day.
Taibu said he was satisfied with their performance but said there were areas identified for improvement.
“There are certain things that we saw that we want to work on. Once we work on those things, we will be represented better,” said Taibu.
“I want us to work more on the fighting spirit, working as a team, sticking to the game plan and playing to our roles.
“These are the things that we managed to do throughout the tour. We are now looking forward to the Hong Kong tour before we go back home.”
The Barramundis have a few fixtures set for this week in Hong Kong and Malaysia before they return home for the Isuzu T20 Bash set for later this month.
