Barrow Raiders pair seek more time to spend with family

PAPUA New Guinea Kumuls pair Stargroth Amean and Wartovo Puara Jr have requested their Betfred League One employers Barrow Raiders to grant them more time to spend with their families.
Utility back Amean said they were enjoying their break in the country before heading back to the United Kingdom for their second season in the third-tier competition.
“The distance from England is far,” he said. “It’s a 17-hour flight. Once we go to the UK, we will be there for the whole year so we need to spend all the time we can with our families before we go.
“It’s also quite expensive to travel to and from England.”
Amean said it was tough playing in the UK as they did not have their families around them to provide support.
“Since we are still here, we want them (the Barrow Riders management) to at least extend our leave so that when we go there, we will be in a right shape mentally and physically to focus on our game. If we don’t perform well there, then it gives us a bad name and it comes back to PNG rugby league.
“So to prevent that, we will stay until whenever we feel that we are ready to go, then we will go.”
