THE Gerehu Rugby League offseason competition that kicked off a month ago has attracted 96 premier and reserve teams from the National Capital District.
There were a total of 96 teams both ‘A’ and ‘B’ grades in 48 clubs in Gerehu and vicinity areas that have shown interest to participate.
League president Frank Kurum said since an earmarked amount of K20,000 pledged by the NCD governor was still pending, he had been using his own money to keep the competition going.
“I’m not accessing the amount pledged by the honorable governor,” Kurum said. “The money is yet to be presented to the league. I can’t wait for the amount to operate the game because time can’t wait for us.
“So while waiting for the funds to be released, I have to use my own money to pay the referees and other necessary items to keep it going.
“Thus, the only option is to use the money paid as registration fees by teams.
“Therefore, I urge all the participating teams to pay their registration fees in full.”
