A NEW high school is to be built in the Onga-Waffa local level government (LLG) of Markham in Morobe.
The National Planning and Monitoring Department through Minister Sam Basil, granted K500,000 while launching roadwork machines at Intoap village last weekend to start the school.
Basil said the Onga-Waffa LLG should have one high school and to begin with there should be construction work, land preparation and acquisition of land.
“What the Markham development authority is doing, we are giving K500,000 to start the Onga-Waffa High School,” he said.
“People of Onga-Waffa, in two to three years, we hope when this money is put to use it will get the attention of the Morobe government, Government and the member under the district services improvement programme (DSIP) fund to ease (the burden of the) people so the children will not need to cross the Markham River.”
Markham MP Koni Iguan on behalf of the people, acknowledged Basil and other state ministers, William Samb (Transport and Infrastructure) and Rainbo Paita (Finance), for listening to the people.
“We now have the first K500,000 coming from the National Government for the high school and we also acknowledge the Government for giving the district a police vehicle to complement the new police station recently opened,” he said.
