THE people of the Onga-Waffa local level government (LLG) Markham Morobe, will see some light at last, thanks to the government releasing K1 million for solar lights.
Finance Minister Rainbo Paita said the initial K1mil would go towards lighting up schools, hospitals and other government bodies in the district.
“If there’s any surplus in the National Planning Department or somewhere else, we will continue to support the population in the district to have accessibility to solar lights,” he said.
“The PNG Power grid will come but meanwhile we’ll help the people and community with solar lights through the rural electrification programme.”
Paita said money was scarce and the K10 million district services improvement (DSIP) fund could cater for everyone.
“When people see K10mil they think it’s a lot of money but when distributed, it gets smaller and that’s where team effort is needed,” he said.
“National politics is a game of soccer where players play as a team.
“You see us wearing different attire such as Pangu Pati or United Labour Party but deep down we stand as one team.”
He challenged the people to take responsibility and ownership of the service provided and take care of it.
Paita, on behalf of his family and people of Finschhafen, congratulated Markham MP Koni Iguan in being appointed the deputy speaker of parliament.
