HEBOU PNG Barramundis replacement wicketkeeper Dogodo Bau had big shoes to fill during the recent series against Namibia.
Not only did the 22-year-old have to fill the demanding role of wicketkeeper, but also stood in for injured Barramundis captain Jack Vare.
“There was a lot of pressure, because all the players knew the standards Jack sets behind the stumps, so I had to uphold those standards,” Bau said.
Making his international debut for the Barramundis in the four-day Intercontinental Cup match against Namibia, Bau put in a solid performance for the team behind the stumps, making three catches.
However, it was in the 50-over matches that Bau showed what he could do with the bat, making 80 runs, which included eight boundaries, in his ODI debut against Namibia last Friday.
“It was a dream come true. I dreamt about this day as a young kid. To play my first ODI,  score 80 runs and get the team home — it’s a very special moment for me,” Bau said.
