EAST Sepik was privileged to have PNG men’s soccer coach Flemming Serritslev visiting and conducting a coaching course recently, an official says.
East Sepik Grassroots Games chairperson Clarence Hukahu said the province was grateful for having Serritslev, who arrived last Thursday and conducted a one-day soccer course on Friday as part of the province’s 40th anniversary celebrations.
“There were 34 participants in the course who came from all over the province — Wewak, Angoram, Maprik and Yangoru-Saussia,” Hukahu said.
“Officials from Meri Football, Sepik Futsal Association and Wewak Football Association also took part.”
On Saturday, Flemming had the chance to watch men’s teams compete in the soccer games during the anniversary celebrations.
Hukahu said Flemming was impressed with the talent in the province and was willing to revisit and help with other initiatives it might organise in the future.
During the provincial celebrations, a cycling race and a 5km run were also organised for the weekend.
Volleyball and futsal games will start today as part of the sporting activities organised with help from the provincial government.
Hukahu thanked Flemming for taking time out to visit the province and running the coaching programme.
He also thanked PNGFA operations manager Margaret Aka for working closely with the province to have Flemming going over for the weekend.
The East Sepik division of sports, culture and tourism provided the funding for the coaching programme.
