Be firm, change laws

Letters

I ENCOURAGE the Government to put its foot down and shelve negotiations on new projects in the petroleum and mining sectors until the policies and laws are changed to a benefit sharing structure on free carry equity and among landowners, state and developers.
A state task force team should be set up to deliver a policy matrix of changes corresponding to the existing mining and oil and gas legislation and prepare comprehensive draft amendments for public scrutiny before it is approved by the government and presented to parliament by April.
Without a proactive action, there will be no basis for the Government to negotiate for additional benefits for landowners and secure enough gas for domestic use in relation high value petrochemical industries.
