POLICE Commissioner Gari Baki says parents should be mindful of the type of man their daughter marries because they will feel the pain for the rest of their lives if a tragedy occurs.
Baki told people at the funeral service of the late Silingo Glorissa Lamu in Port Moresby, who was allegedly murdered by her husband recently, that parents should take an interest in their daughter’s future.
“We as parents should be very careful of the type of man that comes into our daughter’s lives and the type of man they marry because in tragedies like this, it leaves us shattered,” Baki said.
Lamu, in her 30s, her daughters, six and five, and their babysitter Magi Molo, 18, was allegedly murdered by her husband in Mt Hagen last week.
Lamu was the daughter of a senior police officer.
Baki said such events reflected “our type of life in Papua New Guinea and parents should take extra precaution on the type of men their daughters took as their partner”.
As a father and a grandfather, Baki said the first thing he often thought about in the morning was the safety of his family.
He said the young woman who was killed last week was full of life but was taken away along with her two daughters and cousin because of jealousy and greed.
