VIRTUES Early Child Care and Education put their pupils to test at Ela Beach on Saturday to see their practical skills about what they learn in school in their environment lessons.
Coordinator Margaret Auo said character development was important in early childhood learning and added that their school’s focus was teaching children different virtues in life.
“Some of the virtues they learn at school are cleanliness, responsibility, teamwork, caring and consideration, kindness and gentleness,” she said.
The school took part in a cleanathon at Ela Beach on Saturday to commemorate World Environment Day.
Auo said they had a service project twice a year when students helped the community by doing clean-ups.
“This service project it’s a lead-up to the ‘Saving my planet show’ that will happen in week nine so we decided to let the students do clean up and sort out rubbish at Ela Beach,” she said.
Auo said the children learnt about ways to save the environment against pollution and different issues affecting people which was also integrated in their lesson.
“They have learnt about recycling, composting, pollution and all the other issues that affect human beings.
“They also learn about other aspects affecting humanity like racial discrimination, gender-based violence and others,”she said.
Virtues Early Child Care and Education is a Bahai-inspired school that focuses on good moral and ethical childhood development. The school has childcare, pre-school and elementary (grade one –three).
“We are muti-religion and focus on teaching the kids about the good values of life because after all we all pray to the same God,” Auo said.
Grade two pupil Teishabelle Gordon said what they are doing is a practice of cleanliness, a virtue they learn in school.
