A woman in Gulf who was bitten by a venomous snake was saved, thanks to quick response by her husband and Oil Search personnel.
Lucy John, from Wabo village, was bitten by a death adder while completing her daily chores.
She needed anti-venom and she was rushed by her husband Iksy to the Oil Search’s seismic team base camp 40km away.
The couple were met by camp medical officer Dr Robert Imambu.
Imambu and his team helped stabilise John with an anti-venom infusion and monitored her progress throughout the night.
She made a full recovery by the next morning and was discharged from the seismic crew clinic.
The company’s community affairs team then supplied fuel for the couple’s trip home.
The Johns thanked Oil Search for the life-saving treatment and care with husband Iksy saying they were fortunate to have the company in their province.
The Oil Search seismic team has now saved the life of three snake-bite victims from the Wabo area.
Anti-venom is costly (about K20,000 per dose) and needs special cool storage, so it is typically not available in remote clinics.
