A COURT has adjourned the case of two Chinese nationals allegedly involved in importing “fake” beer into Papua New Guinea to February 25 to take plea.
The Waigani Committal Court presided by magistrate, Cosmas Bidar, yesterday held that it would await suspects Wan Yen Bing, 57, and Wang Yuan Yan, 40, who were currently out of the country for business travel.
They were expected to return on February 23 to find out whether they were guilty or not.
Yen Bing and Yuan Yan, who were on K1000 bail each, were alleged to have smuggled 58 cartons of “fake” SP green cans into the country.
Police reports alleged that “on Dec 18, 2018, the defendants negotiated with a local business man from Sogeri, Andy Kauwa, who bought eight cartons whereas the others were sold off”.
“Police were later tipped off through Andy, and he led police to the defendants’ house, where they were arrested and charged.”
Wang Yuan Yan was previously arrested and charged for smuggling “fake” cigarettes into Papua New Guinea.
He was fined K30,000 in default three years in hard labour.
