HELA resident judge Justice Martin Ipang says more than 60 bench warrants are pending in the province.
Ipang said police needed the assistance of local leaders to execute the warrants.
He pointed this out when issuing the warrants of arrest for Luke Andaya of Komo village and Agori Warape of Hoiebia village.
They had escaped while being transported from Buiebi jail in Mendi to court in Tari in May.
“The two warrants of arrest are among 67 bench warrants issued by Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia during a National Court circuit to Tari last November,” Ipang said.
“Most of these accused are still on the run and are facing serious charges such as murder, arson and rape.”
