Beyond halls of power

Letters

IT is with a heavy heart that I write to express the sentiments of countless Papua New Guineans.
Our nation, rich in culture and promise, faces a critical juncture-one where leadership integrity hangs in the balance.
Accountability matters: Every Member of Parliament (MP) entrusted with the people’s mandate must be held accountable. Yet, we witness a disheartening trend: self-interest often eclipses the welfare of our citizens. The people of PNG are not blind; they see through the veil of empty promises and political maneuvering.
Corruption’s shadow: The specter of corruption looms large. It casts a dark shadow over our democracy, eroding trust and undermining progress. The events of Jan 10 – the ominous ‘black Wednesday’-served as a stark reminder of the consequences when leaders prioritise personal gain over public service.
Call for change: We implore our MPs to rise above the fray. The path to true leadership lies in transparency, ethical conduct, and genuine concern for the wellbeing of our nation. When leaders gang up to deceive the people, they sow seeds of unrest. The ground trembles with discontent, and the winds of change gather strength.
Hour is now: PNG stands at the crossroads. Will our leaders heed the call for accountability? Or will they perpetuate a cycle of disillusionment? The choice is theirs, but the consequences ripple far beyond the halls of power.
Let us raise our voices, not in anger, but in hope – a hope that demands better, expects better, and believes in the resilience of our people.
