Lelang did right by moving

Letters

THE move by Kandrian-Gloucester MP Joseph Lelang to resign as Opposition Leader and join the government faction is a wise decision.
This is a sign of leader who puts the country first than politics.
We all know that there are many issues in the country, and many of them have accumulated over many years of negligence by successive governments. But we must put our personal differences and politics away and work collectively to fix these problems.
Changes don’t happen overnight. So, how can you fix all the problems over night if you change the government through a VoNC (vote of no-confidence).
We have so many issues at hand that need everyone’s attention, which should be the focus rather talking about VoNC.
Every member of Parliament is mandated by the people. Hence, they’re duty-bound to exercise their powers on the floor of Parliament. But, they must put the people’s interest first than their political aspirations.
VoNC is a constitutional parliamentary process, but it should be introduced if the Opposition is confident that it has the numbers. Otherwise, it’s a waste of time and resources which could be utilised to fix some of other problems.
With Lelang’s experience and knowledge, I have no doubt that he will assist the government in any form or shape in their endeavour to finding solutions to the issues at hand.
You are a true leader.
