Go beyond the norm

Letters

WHEN I was a student at Divine Word University, I always dream of travelling the world. I set my dream as a vision and wrote it down.
It was cruel of others who believe that you have to graduate to travel the world.
For me, I still believed that I will travel the world.
I was inspired by my history lesson.
Learning how World War II started, I was really inspired by Pearl Harbor.
To achieve your dreams, you have to look foolish to everyone else.
Yes, everyone will see you as a fool.
Now what we don’t realize is that such foolish dreamers in the past brought us this far.
It was foolish to think that we can fly one day in the sky.
But the Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur, were willing to be called fools to make that possible for us today.
It was foolish to think that you can connect all over the world with friends.
Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, was willing to be called a fool to make that happen.
Today, you can connect with the world with a click of a button.
It was foolish to hold a computer in your hand. Before, one computer will be like the size of a school hall or even a double-storey building.
That is one computer.
So, when Bill Gates had a dream to create Microsoft, it was a foolish idea to everyone else.
Now, he didn’t give up on his dream.
What was his dream?
His dream was to one day see ordinary people holding computers on their laps as laptops, on their palms as palm tops and on their desks as desktops.
Believe me, he went through criticism.
Did he give up? No he didn’t.
That is why we own laptops and desktops today at reasonable prices. All dreamers look like fools from the beginning.
So when you have a dream today, expect people to call you a fool. But don’t you dare give up.
One day, your dream will feed humanity. I always believe in your dream.
That is why I am writing this to you.
I thank God, my dream of travelling the world happened, when I was still a student at the university.
Where there is a vision. There is provision. God provides.
