THE Basketball Federation of Papua New Guinea (BFPNG) will proceed with its selection trials as scheduled for next month.
The dates for trials are Dec 4-5 (Lae), Dec 14 (Goroka) and Dec 18-19 (Port Moresby).
BFPNG executive officer Nick Daroa said the selection panel would consist of the national coaches, an independent selector and a BFPNG board representative.
The trials for the national teams are open to the public.
“They will be put through their paces for the selectors to screen,” Daroa said.
BPNG is also eyeing citizen athletes based overseas.
“For the men’s team, we are looking at Liam and Lloyd Wright, Martineng Leahy, Christian Pang, Aaron Farmer and whoever else is out there,” Daroa said.
“For the women’s team, we are looking at Magdalene and Peninah Javapro and the Lucas sisters playing in Thailand.
“This, however, will very much depend on the granting of their dual citizenship.”
Following the trials, there will be squad training to select the final PNG team rosters.
“The first assignment will bethe Fiba Melanesian Cup Championship in Suva, Fiji, with the top-two teams qualifying for the 2023 Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands.”
