Morobe Governor Ginson Saonu says the province will be hosting several billion kina projects in the near future.
He said that was why he has invited foreign investors to invest K100 million in Morobe over the next 30 years.
Saonu said the investments were a strategic move consistent with Morobe Kundu Vision 2048.
He said major projects in the pipeline included:

  • Nadzab Airport and city developments;
  • Ramu Two hydro power;
  • Lae Port Tidal Basin;
  • Hidden Valley mine;
  • Wafi-Golpu mine; and ,
  • Wagang fisheries wharf.

Saonu said the projects had prompted Bank of PNG to build a cash flow facility in Lae which would open soon.
He said the projects, when in operation, would change the face of Lae.
Saonu applauded Prime Minister Peter O’Neill for his vision to transform Lae.
He said Lae generated K1 billion annually for national coffers but was denied its rightful share.
“Morobe deserves to be accorded its rightful privilege as the first amongst equals, determined by land mass, population, GST and internal revenue,” Saonu said.
“Morobe can never overtake your financial prowess as the national Government but we can contribute meaningfully to national coffers because we have the best economic potential.”
