Bird calls for order between Works, contractors

EAST Sepik Governor Allan Bird says that the provincial Works office and contractors engaged by district development authorities are working on the same roads in his province.
“In my province, we are seeing that districts are giving out contracts to fix the same roads with their chosen contractor that the provincial works are responsible for fixing.
Bird said that when commenting on the new PNG Road (Management and Fund) Bill presented by Works Minister Michael Nali.
“We need to sort out who does what roads in the province,” he said.
“When the Government allocates certain amounts of money for a road in a district, the district comes in and says no I should get that money and I will tender it using my procurement processes.
“And so the MPs then use their procurement process to bid for those contracts with their chosen contractor.”
