A HARDWARE company in Kokopo has donated 10 9000-litre water tanks worth K45,000 to the Kokopo district last Saturday.
BNBM Hardware presented the tanks to the district as a Christmas gift.
The tanks will be distributed to various government and community institutions like schools, health centres, aid posts, training centres and community halls in the district.
The tanks were handed over to local MP Emil Tammur by company branch manager Ridson Lai.
Lai said BNBM Hardware, as a business entity, was not only in the country to make money but also to help the people and communities in which it operated.
“We saw that certain facilities in the district were having difficulties trying to store and collect water so we decided to help,” he said.
“The tanks will be used in health facilities and schools.
“As a company, we have been operating in Papua New Guinea for 26 years now and have assisted a lot of institutions over the years.
“Every year, we have budgets for humanitarian programmes where we give back something to the communities.”
Tammur thanked the company for its assistance to the district.
He said the tanks would be given to Raluana (2), Duke of York (2),
Bitapaka (3) and Kokopo-Vunamami (3) local-level governments.
Tammur said drinking and using clean water was important and the district appreciated the gesture shown by the company.
