NATIONAL welterweight champion Tom Boga is aiming for a win over fellow countryman Peter Miria on Friday, as he prepares for his October bout against an Australian boxer.
The 2015 Pacific Games gold medallist said he would use local bouts, organised by Oceania Fight Promotions (OFP), in the months prior to prepare for the international bout.
The 30-year old told The National last week that his long-term goal was to fight in a World Boxing Council-sanctioned bout.
“I am working hard to achieve that,” the Eastern Highlander said.
Boga said boxing has been quiet over the past few months due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“But despite that, I’ve continued to train hard,” he said.
Boga said the Miria bout has been scheduled for six three-minute rounds.
“He doesn’t have much experience like me but he is a quality opponent.
“I will use the fight to prepare myself for the big one in October.”
Boga said OFP will arrange fights at the end of every month leading up to October.
