BOANA man Brown Bolong bagged a silver medal in the Australian RAW powerlifting championship at Melbourne University, Australia.

The championship held from March 22-24 drew the best lifters from USA, New Zealand, Samoa and Australia.

Bolong, from the Morobe Weightlifing and Powerlifting Association, competed in the 66kg division.

He was part of a 10-member team of seven competitors and three official who took part in the championship after attending the G4G priority event preparation programme before the championship.

Bolong was up against the Australian champion and both were neck to neck as weights were added to the bar until he settled for the silver.

Three other members of the team won medals in their respective divisions. They are Linda Pulsan (gold) in the women’s 72kg plus, who was awarded best lifter award, while in 59kg class Kalau Andrew (gold) unseated countryman Ruben John who settled for silver.

Bolong said the trip could not have been made possible without the support from his employer, Niugini Tablebirds and the management of Mainland Holding that sponsored him, the people of Boana (Nawaeb District), Wain Erap president Charlie Foike and the Niugini Tablebirds sales and marketing and promotional team.
