WANTOKS have booked a spot in the first quarter-final play-off on Saturday against Stingerz in the Port Moresby Women’s Softball competition.

A much more determined Wantoks came out showing their true colours last Saturday after stunning the crowd with their shocking win over the United Sisters.

That win came through pitchers Ellie Arek and Matilda Moi, who were instrumental in the 5-4 run over.

After struggling in the A Grade, Wantoks have proved to be a team to look out for.

Following their loss to Wantoks in their washout game last Sunday, Stingerz will have to come back hard to beat them.

POMWSA president Jenny Paak described last weekend’s games as exciting and is looking forward to more upsets this weekend.

“It really indicates how strong the competition is getting. All the teams are getting tough,” Paak said.

Bears, who are the minor premiers, will take on United Sisters in the play-offs.

Wolves gave the Bears a run for their money last Saturday when they almost ran over the minor premiers just before the fifth inning when Nadia Bais hit a home run to score two runs for Bears to win 4-2 after their 2-2 draw in the bottom of the four.

This match will definitely be a thriller between these rivals. The winner will go on to standby for the grand finals, while the loser moves on to play the winner of Stingerz and Wantoks game.

In the B Grade, minor premiers Chebu will take on Admiralty, while Stingerz and United Sisters battle in a do-or-die match.
