BOMANA and Hohola Lareva Dragons were crowned the kings and queens of the inaugural Port Moresby Suburban rugby league competition after beating Morata Swans in the men’s and women’s grand final respectively on Sunday.
In the men’s game, Bomana beat Swans 8-4 while in the women’s match, the Dragons edged out the Swans and beat them 4-2.
Bomana captain Lensia Torepa said her players were confident of winning the grand final and it paid off well for them on Sunday.
“It was the girls’ commitment and team work that paid off. We knew we were going to be in the grand final and we won it,” Lenisa said.
A total of K31,000 was allocated for the grand final. Dragons walked away with K4,000 and the cup while Bomana pocketed K2,000 and trophy.
The runners-up in the men’s and women’s divisions, Swans settled for K2,500 while the women got K1,200.
NCD project coordinator Ned Dong, who witnessed the grand final, was impressed with the behavior of the spectators and fans.
“The competition has improved a lot.
“It is really good to see that the behaviour of the people from the communities is changing.
“I applaud the hard work, commitment and drive the Port Moresby Suburban Sports Association is doing under the leadership of Billy Aki,” Dong said.
