SPORTS administrators in Jiwaka, Western Highlands have been urged to organise themselves and get their house in order in preparation for the PNG Games in Kokopo, East New Britian.
The proposed Jiwaka province will be sending a separate team to the games
Western Highlands deputy administrator for Jiwaka Affairs, Daniel Nop Amban, was given the green light for Jiwaka from the PNG Sports Foundation.
Amban, who is also the interim chairman for the Jiwaka provincial sports office, said funding would come through the Jiwaka Transitional Authority and the Western Highlands provincial government because Jiwaka was still part of Western Highlands.
Thirty participants attended a weeklong workshop on community sports in Minj last month to gain new skills on running various sports at the district level because most sports administrators lacked skills in organising sports.
“After Jiwaka has province status with its own the provincial government it will take care of Team Jiwaka through the community development office,” he said.
Amban said the provincial sports authority for Jiwaka was in place and sports played in Jiwaka would come through the authority to be recognised.
Amban said it was good for the administrators to organise with their executives at the district level to get the games rolling.
“Before proposals are submitted and secure funding it is important for each sports administrators at the district level to get their house in order so that it will give me sufficient time to compile the necessary documents,” Amban said.
The workshop facilitated by PNG Sports Foundation programme manager Scott Vavine was the first to be conducted in Minj.
It attracted participants from Jimi, North and South Wahgi.
