LIBRARY books were donated to schools in the Undiri area, lower Mendi, Southern Highlands, by a donor last month.
Ferman Mombu said the library books donation drive to schools for this academic year began last week.
“Last year, we distributed more than 600 boxes of books to eight primary schools in Undiri area.
“This year, we will cover those primary schools that were left out last year before moving to other schools in the remotest part of Imbonggu.”
The books were supplied by the organisation Books 4 PNG Kids based in Australia which partnered with voluntarily purposely to distribute books to schools in his electorate.
Mombu acknowledged their support for their consistent supply of books over the last two years when they started this donation drive.
“Thank you very much for tapping into the need area for the schools which education department would not intervene to help.
“Those schools that already received the books have enough books in their libraries selves,” he said.
Mombu said through reading, students would acquire necessary knowledge that would broaden their understanding and improve their academic performance as well.
“Knowledge is acquired through reading of books,” he said.
“Do not waste your time sitting around telling stories, instead make use of it by reading the books that would improve your learning and to develop skills that will benefit you in the future.”
