THE Telikom Foundation last month donated learning materials and reading books to Mainowiga Primary School in inland Rigo, Central.
Foundation chief executive officer Brian Sam said the donation was timely for the isolated school where the harsh road conditions and geographical setting denied them access to libraries in the city or nearby schools which had library facilities.
Sam said through books, the students could improve their reading skills and open new learning horizons.
The donation coincided with the schools pioneer batch of Grade 8 students’ luncheon held at the school.
Sam challenged them to reach their full potential.
“I see hope in this place. Irrespective of the remoteness of this school, there is a bright future for you all,” he said.
Sam challenged parents who gathered to witness the donation to send their children to school.
He said they were already showing that commitment to their children’s education which was evident with the school passing out its pioneer batch of Grade 8 students and it was important that they maintained that.
School board chairman Mauri Pole said the donation would benefit the school.
