Bopi attends leaders’ meet

 MANAGEMENT consultant George Bopi is representing the country at the Commonwealth Leaders’ study conference in South Africa.

It runs from June 10 to 13 in Johannesburg.

Bopi is a former head of the Department of Open and Distance Learning at the PNG University of Technology.

He has been instrumental in driving various key human capital and skills development programmes in the country such as the Technical Vocational Education Training Skills Scholarships Programme for the Office of Higher Education, technical adviser to the development of the Government’s Vision 2050 document, founding trustee of Telikom Foundation and founding member of Leadership PNG.

He is also council member of the University of Natural Resources and Environment and heads the government’s medium term development plan review as project manager.

Bopi, 48, from Nebilyer district in Western Highlands is among 100 participants drawn from government, businesses and NGOs across the 54 countries of the commonwealth.

Bopi also attended the first part of the CSC-leaders conference in UK from March 16 to 24 this year.

He said some of the best brains in the Commonwealth gathered in these meetings and it was inspiring to learn from others, especially when PNG was going through an extractive development boom.

According to CSC-Leaders Communications and Alumni manager Isabella Betkowski in the UK, the first of the CSC was held in London in 1956. Since then 10 Commonwealth conferences had been held in India, Australia, Malaysia, Canada and New Zealand.
