THE Boroko Police Station receives two to three rape cases of minors each week, says National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Perou N’Dranou.
The shocking revelation was made in response to questions on how police could be assisted to minimise the rate of rape cases in the city.
“I am planning to organise an awareness that will involve the police and the mainstream media to work together to reach out to communities to advocate on the importance of parents taking care of their children, both males and females, women and girls,” N’Dranou said.
He said one of the measures police would take to address rape issues in the National Capital District was to do more awareness. “If you look at it, we (police) are at the receiving end where we only receive reports when the rape crime has already been committed, so why do not we prevent it before happening?
N’Dranou said he had been vocal in the media recently on how parents should to be careful and to look after their children.
“It is both males and females that are now subject to the rape crime, so now I could suggest to the media and social workers if they can work with police to somehow do a workshop or awareness to residents of NCD,” he said.
“This is so that we can talk to the city parents whose children are at risk now more than ever because every week we receive an average of two cases a week and this has been a regular trend recently.”
