Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae says the New Year means doing new things to bring about positive outcomes in life.
He said this yesterday in his New Year’s Day message.
Sir Bob commended the people for a generally peaceful Christmas and New Year celebrations, and called for this same spirit to continue into the rest of the year.
“Lady Hannah and I wish everyone in PNG a blessed and happy 2018,” he said.
“The New Year 2018 must be seen as a year of progress, success, joy and prosperity for individuals, families and organisations.
“New year means doing new things to achieve positive outcomes in life.
“It means turning past mistakes and failures into positive outcomes.
“For example, students who did not do well in achieving good grades must set their priorities.
“It could mean that they spend so much time on mobile phones than on books.
“Fathers who make lives of families miserable must say no to beer or pokies.
“Employees who often turn up late for work must now change to turn up early.
“Husbands must respect wives and men must respect women.
“There must be no room for family violence. People who take other people’s lives on suspicion of sorcery must change their attitude, and turn more to Christian values and beliefs.
“Let us all portray a good image of PNG as we await the hosting of Apec, one of the big world events in PNG’s history.”
Sir Bob thanked all sportmen and women, coaches and managements for doing the country proud in 2018.
“Examples include rugby league, sevens rugby union, weightlifting and others,” he said.
“We excelled in events such as the Mini Pacific Games in Vanuatu and the PNG Games in Kimbe, West New Britain.”
