PORT Moresby Nature Park general manager Michelle McGeorge says 2019 was a tremendous year because of the support the park received.
She said the park launched a new education programme and three new exhibits, including the Reptile Haus and a frog research conservation project.
“The park also went on to release 15 endangered pig-nosed turtles, making this the first fresh water turtle wildlife release of its kind in Papua New Guinea,” she said.
“In October, the park celebrated its obtainment of International Wildlife Welfare accreditation from the Zoo and Aquarium Association of Australasia, making the Nature Park the first Pacific island facility to have passed what is considered globally as the most scientific and rigorous assessment of animal management for zoos and wildlife facilities.”
McGeorge said the park received more than 140,000 visitors annually, making it one of the most visited sites in the country.
