PORT Moresby outfit Bougainville are eager to return to competition mode when the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League resumes on Saturday, says coach David Passam.
The side have won one match and lost another in the first two round of competition at the Papua New Guinea Football Stadium in Port Moresby.
They face in-form rookies Vitiaz United at 1pm.
Despite the country’s premier football competition going into recess for the festive season, Passam’s men have been working hard at training as they aim for consistency.
“We are preparing for the resumption of the competition this coming Saturday,” Passam said.
“My players were on a week’s break over the Christmas period and resumed training on Monday.
“All my players are back and we’re working on our weakness before we take the field.
“Our camp is gaining momentum and we won’t be taking our opponents lightly.”
Passam told The National that he was not thinking about recruiting foreign players despite defending champions Lae City and Hekari United snaring footballers from abroad.
“Maybe in the future we might import foreign players but this season,” he said.
“However, it is good to see other clubs bringing in players from overseas to help lift the standard of football in the country.
“When professionals from abroad come and compete with local players, our footballers will be motivated to lift their game as they aim to be better than them,” Passam said.
“So it’s great for Papua New Guinea football that we’re bringing in overseas players.”
