The ID24 National Capital District Eastern Highlands Offseason Rugby League competition resumed on a high note which saw OK5 Brothers defeating Hila Kenis 6-0 at the Taurama Barracks Oval in Port Moresby yesterday.
After a two-week break to celebrate Christmas, the A-Grade fixture got off to a slow start with both sides giving little away to finish the first half scoreless. The second half was the fierce battle with Brothers’ Cliff Bakui, Jacky Simon, Chris Munah and Isaac Philip producing strong carries as they look to gain the upper hand.
However, they were contained by Kenis’ Auda Lofe, Dick Kawo, Jimmy Makaru and Kolen Kule.
A minute before fulltime, luck was on Brothers’ side when halfback John Dami’s spiralling kick across the field found utility Nelson Paul who crossed over for the winner.
Brothers player-coach Dami was pleased with his players for grinding out the win.
“This is our sixth round of playing in the competition,” he said.
“So far, we’ve won four matches and drawn two.
“We are grateful for playing in the competition because it has changed many of my players’ attitude.
“My players are now investing all their time and effort in attending trainings every afternoon to improve their rugby league skills.
“We are looking forward to our matches ahead. We want to make the finals.”
