BOUGAINVILLE police will continue to improve housing for officers in the region, acting Assistant Commissioner Police Paul Kamuai says.

Chief Superintendent Kamuai gave the assurance following refurbishment works on one police house at the Hutjena police barracks in Buka.

The house will be occupied by the officer-in-charge of the police training section, Senior Constable Irene Semoso.

The maintenance work, costing K150,000, was carried out by local company Defco Civil Works and Construction.

“Funding for this project was sourced from our recurrent budget.

“This family was lucky because at the end of the year we had some money left which we then used to renovate this house,” Kamuai said.

“Though the cost was big we had to spend the money because the condition of that house was very bad.”

He said police officers were continuing to perform their duties despite the lack of work on their accommodation.

“A number of our policemen and women are not living in good accommodation. Some of the accommodation need maintenance work to be carried out.

“So with the limited funds that we get, we try as much as possible to balance the work that we do to satisfy the accommodation needs of police officers.”
