THE Lae Bowling Club is now back in operation after a four-year closure, with a tournament scheduled for Dec 11-12, according to president Toki Mambere.
“The club is now open again after a long closure,” he told The National this week.
“There a lot of fun activities coming up. We have agreed to host a challenge against the Aviat Social and Sporting Club.
“They will come challenge us in bowling and we will then go challenge them in snooker.”
Mambere said the club had not competed in any bowling tournaments since its closure in 2018.
“But luckily, some of our members have been competing in corporate bowls at the Lae Golf Club,” he said.
Mambere said his club had a debt to pay which had caused the closure.
“Thankfully, this year, the Lae City Authority bailed us out through local MP John Rosso,” he said. “We thank our MP for rescuing this iconic club.
“The club is important because it was built by people before us during the colonial days.
“Now that the club has re-opened, everyone is welcome to come and play this beautiful game of bowling,” Mambere said earlier this week.
