THE Lae Football Association is into the second round of its season with 14 A-league, 16 B-league, 10 premier women’s and 18 Under-20 teams competing in the Morobe capita, according to an official.
Fixtures chairman Alex Toki said the games started in early February with his association completing round-one matches in July.
“In round one, we had 16 A-league, 18 B-league and 11 women’s teams, but we had to omit some teams that had not ensured compliance with the association,” he said.
“Two A-league and two B-league teams as well as one women’s team were removed.
“Our aim is complete matches in September with the finals to be played in October.
“We want to thank educational institutions in the city for fielding teams in the competition.
“They are the University of Technology, National Polytechnic Institute of Papua New Guinea, and Busu, Bugandi and Lae secondary schools.”
Toki said the association had held talks with teachers about the possibility of organising a schools competition.
“The idea of schools soccer is to provide an avenue for fair selections in terms of age,” he said.
“Teachers will make recommendations on selections.
“From next season, we will do away with U20 teams and allow schools to compete in our competition.”
