TWO leading boxing associations in the country — Morobe and NCD  — are calling for financial assistance to participate in next month’s national championships in Arawa, Bougainville.
Morobe’s Ronnie Noan and NCD’s Mark Keto are appealing to business houses and their respective parliamentarians to help fund their trip to the SP-sponsored national championships from Sept 5-9. “We desperately need assistance. This is one of many youth development projects,” Noan said.
“We have pulled these youths out of the streets from being involed in drugs, crime, homebrew.
“They are always looking forward to a tournament but we never have the financial support to organise tournaments for them.”
The Morobe coach said the championship was a national event and an opportunity to expose the talent.
“PNG Games is another national event for them that is coming up in December,” he said.
Noan said Morobe would be sending two teams to the championships.
Team one comprises experienced boxers while team two is a novice team.
The novice team will be representing Morobe in the PNG Games in Kimbe.
Those wishing to assist the Morobe team can contact Noan on 723 18635/76340739/Email: [email protected]/[email protected] or Gabriel Zack on 70000002.
NCD coach Mark Keto also appealed to Governor Powes Parkop and the three MPs to help his boxers.
He said this would be the same team representing Team NCD at the upcoming PNG Games in December.
Anyone wishing to assist can contact Kasu Temu, the acting NCD Boxing Association president on 75714085 or Keto on 76418566.
