TAMARAWS and Chariots did not have a lot to play for on Sunday night except team pride, which propelled both sides into an overtime thriller in the match of the round in the Port Moresby Basketball League at the Taurama Aquatic Indoor Complex.
Tamaraws went on to beat Chariots 93-90 in overtime.
Tamaraws were aided by a crucial time-out call by coach Ferdinand Daroya which paid dividends for them after both teams drew 83-83 after regulation time.
The game was tied on two occasions which saw Tamaraws’ Robert Kave, Elavo Dopong and Daroya Orly ensuring all their free throws counted.  The result did not go down well with Chariots’ Lei Banduru who attacked match official Willie Muri as both teams walked off the court.
The incident  was condemned by PMBL match officials who immediately called for the removal of Banduru and fined the Chariots club for bringing the game into disrepute.
Apart from the incident, the match was closely contested.
Tamaraws had the upper hand with a one point lead in the first period before Chariots came back strongly to race away scoring 25 baskets to take a 43-36 lead at the break.
Chariots were still had a 66-59 lead after both teams posted 23 baskets apiece.
Sensing the game was slipping away, Tamaraws shifted into high gear to post 24 points while Chariots only managed 17  to send the game into overtime.
