PORT Moresby hockey competition leaders, United won the minor premiership despite their 0-0 draw with the Seagulls on Sunday.
United head the top five as the competition winds up the season proper.
The second-placed Sunam, who are at the heels of United, have an outstanding game to play but this will not make any difference to the standings.
United fielded a strong side with the hope of scoring but Seagulls frustrated them with good scrambling defence. The Vincent Ilumpui-coached side is now out of premiership contention. Other teams also confirmed for the finals are Sunam Gold, Bladez, Bismarck Gold and Wanderers.
Bladez consolidated their position in the top five after beating Bismark Green 2-0 on Sunday.
In the women’s competition, Sunam already have the minor premiership in the bag despite having an outstanding game to play.
Both Sunam’s men’s and women’s teams did not take part in the matches on the weekend due a death in the club.
Other women’s teams confirmed for the premiership challenge include Wanderers, Bismarck, Bladez and Seagulls.
United and Bismark consolidated their position in the final’s race by beating their respective opponents 1-0 (Seagulls) and 1-0 (MVP) respectively.
Port Moresby Hockey Association president Peter Molean said they would play the outstanding matches this weekend.
After which the competition goes into a break during the Independence weekend this year.
