A BRAWL between supporters from M3 Bulldogs and Kongo Rats forced the Morata Off Season Rugby League grand final at the Kone Tigers oval on Sunday to be abandoned.

The incident happened when a drunkard, who was standing inside the field of play was knocked down by a Kongo Rats player who scored a try to level the scores 4-4.

The referee was consulting his linesman when fans proceeded to bash up the intoxicated man.

The referee then refused to continue officiating citing his immediate safety.

That incident quickly escalated into a battle on field with men charging and throwing missiles in all directions while women and children run for cover and watched in vain as the violence continued unabated for several minutes.

Players and officials tried their best to stop the fight between the two Morata teams.

Both teams appealed to the association executives to have police present at the field for the rematch.

Association president Daniel Busu was disappointed with the supporter’s actions saying that the good history of the league was tarnished by the thoughtless actions of hooligans.

Busu said the decision is now with the judiciary committee headed by Brian Jemejeme.

He said a rematch would not be on the weekend but during the working week.
