NINE Mile Dust Turf are the new champions of the National Capital District Governor’s Easter Cup with a 4-0 win over UPNG Pythons.

The match, which was replayed after being abandoned last Monday, was witnessed by a capacity crowd at the Kone Tigers oval on Sunday.

The men from the Turf Club settlement near Bomana, outside Port Moresby, scooped the Powes Parkop Cup and K3,000 while the students settled for K1,500.

NCD Suburban Sports Association president Billy Aki said the presentation of awards and cash prizes would be held at the Lagatoi Haus on Friday.

Aki said the funds were yet to be cleared by the bank.

It was Turf’s fullback Puti Porowa who broke the silence in the second half after the first 30 minute had gone scoreless.

Dust Turf were deserved winners, matching the Pythons in all areas.

The match was a battle of attrition as both sides used their forwards to set a platform while waiting for mistakes.

Turf’s stand-outs were captain Solomon Pokari, five-eighth Sala Kamilo, centre’s Isaac Ulka, Ishmael Nigints, forwards Gamsy Bre, Patrick Opo, Ben Bip and Bona Kale.

For the opposition backs Ham Tinnah, Jackins Mark, forwards Michael Mond, Tova Yabi, Eric Gordon and Tabe Jogari had strong games.
