SOUTH Pacific Brewery has paid 50 per cent of its annual commitment to the Oil Search National Football Stadium to help ensure the facility continues its programmes for the remainder of the year.
At a press conference on Tuesday, commercial manager Moses Williams said SP Brewery valued its partnership with the stadium.
“Even though there has been no rugby league games played at the stadium, SP remains committed and through its brand SP Lager, we have paid 50 per cent of our normal annual commitment,” he said.
“We stand by our company values and that is to value our partners.
“SP Lager’s continued support to the stadium during this difficult time demonstrates our ongoing commitment to the growth of rugby league in Papua New Guinea. Last year, we signed an agreement as the official beer of the stadium.
“Our partnership enables us to give our rugby league supporters a world-class experience to support our SP Hunters and other international matches hosted here.”
Sean Vincin, country manager of Peuna, which is contracted to manage the stadium, thanked the brewery. He said the brewery was one of a few loyal sponsors of the stadium and the support was crucial, with the venue losing more than K7.5 million in revenue due to the cancellation of the Queensland Intrust Super Cup season.
“It is only through the support of our corporate sponsors in these tough times that we can maintain and prepare the home of rugby league for the future,” Vincin said.
“On behalf of the Lloyd Robson Trustees and our naming-rights sponsor Oil Search, I would like to extend our appreciation to SP Brewery for its commitment and support.”
