PM calls for unity
PAPUA New Guineans nationwide should work in unity to rise and shine for their country, Prime Minister James Marape said. Marape said proper harvest of the country’s natural resources and equitable sharing with investors plus better redistribution to landowners and provincial governments would ensure that the country moved towards economic independence.

Call to divide electorate
CENTRAL Governor Robert Agarobe said it was about time Kairuku-Hiri be divided into Kairuku and Hiri districts. “Kairuku-Hiri in Central has by far the largest population and land mass. It needs to be divided,” he said.

Warrants of arrest issued
THE Waigani District Court has issued warrants of arrest for two men who jumped bail in their last three hearings. Magistrate Hubert Sakere issued the warrants for Bahrah Ghozzati, an Iranian, and Richard Moore, a Papua New Guinean from Milne Bay, who were both charged with driving without care.

MP helps to promote culture
PORT Moresby North-East MP John Kaupa showed his support to promote culture and heritage by hosting a cultural show during the Independence Day celebrations. The three-day festival (Sept 15 to 17) was well attended by city dwellers.

Church gets donation
HOMESTATE Corporation Ltd staff, on behalf of the chairman Paiboon Wetwattana, donated bags of long grain Frangipani rice to the Cassowary United church minister Rev Vai Boanere to host the church’s 51st mini synod and celebration. The celebration took place at the Lae United church in Papuan compound last month.

Dept registers association
NEWLY registered Human Rights Defenders Association (HRDAPNG) has started working with the Department of Justice and Attorney-General (DJAG). The association was registered by the DJAG in early August after they presented a petition to Deputy Prime Minister Davis Steven in Parliament House.
