School fees paid by MP
The University of PNG Dei students association (UPNG DDSA) have thanked their local MP and Minister for Immigration and Boarder Security Westley Nukundi Nukundj for sponsoring their school fees. The executives of UPNG DDSA said Nukundj paid their outstanding fees of K86,319 for 56 students last year and committed to pay their tuition fees this year. UPNG DDSA president Jessie Tengdui said the payment covered both the UPNG main campus and medical faculty students. “Some of the students were struggling because of the rise in fees but the initiative taken by our MP was a greatest relief for not only us but also our hardworking parents.”

Call to work responsibly
National Youth Development Authority (NYDA) director general Joe Itaki has urged senior officers to carry out their duties responsibly to bring substantial outcomes. He urged them to be responsible public servants to serve the general youth population with sanctioned policies throughout the nation. He said NYDA and its officers who fall under the social sector has to fulfil the directives and visions shared by the current government.

Opportunity to study abroad
Papua New Guineans will have an opportunity to study for an undergraduate and post graduate master’s programmes at three tertiary institutions in India this year. This follows the signing of an agreement between the PNG International Educational Education Consultancy Services, Excel Group of Institutions, Annai Jkk Sampoorani Ammal College of Nursing and Bharathidasan College of Arts and Science.

Policeman on assault charges
A policeman attached with the highway patrol has been charged with two counts of assault and breaching interim protection order. Inspector Robert Wane said the policeman breached the order not to see his wife, also a police officer, until their case was dealt with in court.
