Madang police shoot suspect, recover police-issued firearm

A POLICE-issued firearm was recovered and the person who was in possession of the firearm was allegedly shot dead by police in Madang on Thursday.
According to police, the deceased, Maxwell Kiso, and six other men, on Wednesday, between 4pm and 5pm, while under the influence of liquor, attacked a Correctional Services officer and his family at Beon prison.
Kiso was armed with the firearm when they attacked the family and robbed K4,000 worth of store goods and some personal belongings while the CS officer and his family were returning from Madang town.
Madang police commander acting Supt Mazuc Rubiang said the deceased fired several shots into the air and threatened the CS officer and his family.
He said when police saw that he (deceased) was armed and dangerous, they shot him on the spot at Panim village along the road to Beon Jail.
The firearm was recovered and brought back to the police station.
