Classes resume
DIVINE Word University’s St Benedict’s Campus in Wewak, East Sepik resumed classes on Monday with strict emphasis on hygiene and social distancing. Campus vice-president Fr Lawrence Arockiaraj said students were divided in two groups and were tested before attending classes.

Joint border patrol
A JOINT police, PNG Defence and Customs patrol boat team arrived in Western to patrol the PNG-Indonesian-Australian maritime borders to prevent Indonesian poachers from illegally crossing, acting South Fly police commander Insp Soiwa Ricker says. He said Daru-based Chinese business houses donated K63,000 for the police operations in the district.

Doing awareness
MEMBERS of the Second Battalion Royal Pacific Islands Regiment in Moem, East Sepik are now in Marienberg, Angoram to conduct awareness on the Covid-19. The 10-men team deployed on Sunday would be in the area for seven days.

Check on farmers
PERSONNEL from Moem Barracks in East Sepik deployed to Dagua to conduct awareness have moved into Waropu in West Sepik to help local police conduct checks on vanilla farmers from East Sepik who keep moving into Aitape to travel illegally to Indonesia to sell vanilla. The regiment’s commanding officer Lt Col Nelson Rapola was grateful for support from the local authorities.

TRANSPORT sector workers’ unions urge the Government to ensure there are no job losses for their members during the current state of emergency (SOE) and lockdown period. President of PNG International Transport Federation Eddie Foe said: “We would like the Government to come out clearly in the stimulus budget of K5.6 billion, what portion is for the private sector.”
