Funds diverted
MAPRIK ,in East Sepik, will divert K300,000 for water and health upgrade projects to settle bills incurred during the 14-day lockdown. District development authority chief executive officer Joshua Himina said the sacrificing of the K300,000 was essential as Maprik did not receive any budget funding from the national and provincial governments.

K1million for relief
MORESBY North-East development authority has allocated K1million for relief assistance and awareness for the coronavirus pandemic. During the launching on Friday, MP John Kaupa said: “Our district (Moresby North East) is the gateway to the nation since we host the Jackson International Airport.”

Firm gives K1,000
A NATIONALLY-owned finance company, Norman Finance Ltd (NFL), has helped a television company telecast the coronavirus health measures. According to NFL, a cheque for K1,000 was recently presented to Christian Media Network Television to do a live streaming of the Covid-19 key messages.

Improving hospital
THE Kwikila District Hospital will be set up as a priority centre that will contain a triage facility, isolation ward and a laboratory featuring a GeneXpert machine as part of Central’s emergency response plan against the Covid-19. Rigo MP Lekwa Gure said the agreement was reached by political leaders from the province.

Support for schools
HUON Gulf, in Morobe, on Friday helped 10 of the 108 primary schools there by providing 10 litres of hand sanitiser. The others will receive their supply soon. District education manager Sam Geseng said hand-washing detergent would also be distributed to 60 elementary schools and two high schools.

Face masks costly
PARENTS of students attending Hagara Primary School in Port Moresby have been urged to provide face masks for their children. Head teacher Henao Koregai said: “It is costly for the school to buy single-use masks for the 1,548 students plus the teachers, we cannot afford 1,500 masks daily.”

Results welcomed
IOGI village councillor Lexie Gawit has welcomed deputy state of emergency controller Dr Paison Dakulala’s announcement in declaring his villagers negative of the Covid-19 in North Fly, Western. Dr Dakulala said the three villagers that were tested positive about a month ago tested negative in their second tests.
